The Virtual Background in Zoom Room feature is designed to display an image or video as your background during a meeting in the Zoom Room. This feature is very useful if you work from home, your room is messy, and you need to conduct a meeting. You can join your meeting and then set the background video you would like to be displayed with just one click of a button.

Prerequisites

  • You must have a meeting with at least one other participant, and you need to be the host of that meeting. You also need to install Zoom Video Conferencing on your computer.
  • Windows: 4.6.0 (1193.1215) or higher
  • macOS: 4.6.0 (1696.1216) or higher
  • A physical green screen

How to Enable Virtual Background in Zoom Room?

To enable Virtual Background for Zoom Rooms:

  • Select the “Meeting” menu in the upper left corner of your screen.
  • Click on “Go to settings.”

  • Scroll down to the Virtual Background section, and click on either Chroma Key or Image Fill. Select an option from there.
  • Enable Chroma Key to use a green/blue screen in your room.
  • To do this, select the “Chroma key” box and then choose one of the options under “green screen.” If possible, keep the light source on the left or right to avoid shadows.
  • The default setting is 30% opacity which works for most cases.
  • Click on the “Save” button.

How to change or stop Virtual Background in Zoom Room?

Change your Virtual Background

  • Select the “Meeting” menu in the upper left corner of your screen.
  • Find and click on the green background you would like to replace with a different one.
  • You can upload an image or video from your computer by clicking on “choose file.” Alternatively, you can search for an image or video by clicking on the “change background” icon.
  • Click on “Change background.” Your browser will open, and you can select one of your pictures or videos stored in the cloud (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.).

Stop displaying Virtual Background

  • Select the “Meeting” menu in the upper left corner of your screen.
  • You can also stop showing the green screen by clicking on the “Stop Background” icon.
